My many I’s

A couple of days ago I glanced quickly at a blog post that I’d written and was somewhat horrified to see that I had started almost every paragraph with I.

Not only does this display a very poor variety of sentence structure but it strikes me as being altogether self absorbed.

Now I would like to give you the opportunity to let me know what you like reading on here. It is incredibly easy and mindless to write about my day and about me or I or whoever.

So if you could comment on this post and vote in the side bar (as soon as I get it up) then I’d appreciate it.

What do you want to see more of?

When I have a conversation with a friend I want to hear how their day’s been and what they’ve been up to with their family. I want to hear what they think of current events. It’s that ‘small talk’ that builds the friendship.

However, I don’t want the friendship to remain based on small talk. I want to be able to discuss deeper, meatier issues too.

That’s the way I like to blog. Small talk helps me get to know people and them to know me. It helps us to become comfortable enough with each other to go further and deeper.

I won’t read blogs that are only ever superficial but I also won’t read blogs that are only ever serious and hard hitting. I want the opportunity to know a person’s heart as well as their mind.

Wow Rodney – I love the insight! That looks quotable – don’t be surprised if that ends up in blog posts elsewhere…. 🙂

I think it’s good to hear about the real stuff that’s happening in your life… and then sometimes to go a few steps further and dig up the underlying issues that are at play in the everyday happenings.
