Yep, chochineal (or however it's spelt) is the dye from the cochineal insect. There's quite a few names for the various products from the bug, and I didn't realise how widely it was used until I was trying to buy makeup for my sister a couple of years ago - I was horrified!

Homepage for Aveda here: http://www.aveda.com/ They have similar branding and target similar audiences to Jurlique. Most of their products are pretty expensive, but their makeup isn't too bad, at least for good quality - I've found with makeup that you often get what you pay for! Aveda's packaging is also pretty much fully-recyclable, and you can buy refills etc (this is one of the bits that I really like). There's one in Australia on Collins.

:) no idea what brand... some horrendously expensive one in Myers. I wouldn't ever pay that much. No one should.

I've got make-up now. Body Shop for the most part and some other cheapo from Priceline to fill in the blanks. Interesting about Aveda though - I've never heard of it before?

I have heard of the squashed bugs though - Cotcheniel?

Hey again Bec! We'll have to meet some time...I feel kinda voyeuristic following your wedding plans!

$90?!! What brand were you looking at!! That's nuts!!

If you're buying makeup again, check out Aveda - their prices are actually ok, and they're products are fabulous. My mother, my sister and I are all converts after I bought something there for my sister. The best bit is that they're basically vegan - they use bees wax, but they don't use that nasty red dye made from squashed bugs (which is in a frightening number of lipsticks. blushes etc). Yay!

"I did really enjoy chatting with him. It makes me envious that I don’t have many/if-any friends in the slightly next stage of life - they are valuable"

Hey Bec.

you've kinda made me feel old...

then warm and fuzzy :)

the opposite is also true - talking with 'younger folk' helps me rethink things, get inspired about things etc.

I think this is a downside to having "life stage" oriented services, smallgroups, etc. - we miss out on the positive interaction of the generations...

sound like an old guy reminiscing!

I totally agree about having a friend do it instead of a professional. Much more laidback. :)
