First kiss

My dear friend Elyce – who was my bridesmaid, got married yesterday; symbolically under a Chuppah. This was their first kiss, a conscious decision to learn how to communicate better throughout their relationship. Tim and Elyce have been together for 6 years. I think they are quite incredible.

Geoff and I have been married about 2 and half years now and marriage is truly excellent… but I can’t say I’ve really gotten over looking at wedding things. I actually enjoyed planning our wedding, despite all the odds (not being very girly etc). It must the whole thing where there is an opportunity to play with colour, creativity and lovely things. Who knows what I’d do if I had to have another go at it (with Geoff naturally).

Anyway since my little sister has just gotten married and I have a few friends with weddings in the pipeline (one of which I will be second photographer, one of which I will be in and doing invites for…) I have decided that I have a wealth of most excellent wedding blogs up my sleeve and wish I’d known about them when I was looking around for vintage/indie/diy/creative/different/non-traditional ideas.

The Secret History by Donna Tartt – this is one of the best books I have read in a long time, it is totally wonderful with a perfect level of intelligent suspense and disturbing themes. Also a Penguin Classic and our current Bookclub book.

I Have a Bed Made of Buttermilk Pancakes by Jaclyn Moriarty- a terribly enjoyable/frolicking novel that plays with characters and conversation. It doesn’t pursue the greatest depths but it kind of doesn’t need to.

Yesterday marked our second wedding anniversary! Time has gone remarkably fast. I love you Geoff.

We can also now recommend the lovely food and atmosphere of The Mill (Hardware Lane). It was a really great night out.

I managed to totally forget to mention that my littlest sister is engaged! Danny-dan-dan and Haig face are getting married June next year. Very pleased about the whole thing really! Aren’t they just a bit cute (photo by Lucy).

And this then is the pause button. I’m off to Soul Survivor – which starts tomorrow, but there is much setting up to be done yet. I spent some of my afternoon doing PR damage control and malware hunting in code as some loser hacker duped the Soul Survivor website… I found one instance of the code but I think Tim S might’ve found the rest (Hurrah for him).

Tonight I have a bridesmaids dress fitting with Sam, April, Natalie and the girl making the dresses.

Bridesmaid

Late last week I had a strong suspicion that I should call up my friend Samantha and enquire as to, “What was going on?”. I managed – without much difficulty, to deduce that she was engaged to her boy Steve and they’d had the unfortunate experience of not being able to get on to her Dad – as he was (at the time) in Uganda and so had to keep it a secret for several days until they could reach him. Much to my surprise Sam has asked me to be a bridesmaid!

It is an interesting thing coming at a wedding from a different angle. This is the first time I’ve been in any way involved to this level (apart from getting married myself). Suddenly the decisions aren’t mine and things really aren’t my responsibility. I hope to make myself useful. But am pleased to be slightly more removed from the stress.

Sam and Steve are getting married in September.

I’ve also found out this week that my friend Katie is engaged.

Yes, indeed, it is all happening!
