People often seem to throw Psalm 139 around to either address self esteem, or abortion. Blah Blah Blah. Oh how we miss so much! Look at the language in this, it is stunning.

O LORD, you have searched me
and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.

You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.

Before a word is on my tongue
you know it completely, O LORD.

You hem me in—behind and before;
you have laid your hand upon me.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.

Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?

If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,

even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.

If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,”

even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.

For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.

My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,

your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.

How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!

Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand.
When I awake,
I am still with you.

If only you would slay the wicked, O God!
Away from me, you bloodthirsty men!

They speak of you with evil intent;
your adversaries misuse your name.

Do I not hate those who hate you, O LORD,
and abhor those who rise up against you?

I have nothing but hatred for them;
I count them my enemies.

Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.

See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.

(Image is mine, taken when ‘Last Goodbye’ by Jeff Buckley made it into Tripple J’s Hottest 100 and Ana and Geoff both jumped up and went a little crazy… Geoff might’ve picked her up and swung her around, slightly amusing!)

Christianity Words

“The unexamined life is not worth living.” -Socrates

I caught this quote in the corner of somewhere the other day and it has been slinking around behind me ever since. I live a less examined life than I used to. Sometimes it bothers me.

Life Words

So I went to make gingerbread just so I could use these awesome new cookie cutters I got from Ikea (see Moose). And was almost done adding the ingredients when I suddenly realised the Gingerbread recipe was for something closer to a ginger cake. Annoying! So I added a bit of flour to a small amount of the mix and made a few biscuits to try out the cutters… not the greatest biscuits, not the worst, but I’m sure the cake tastes good! Besides, it’s all rather cute.

perfumeI’m not obsessed with perfume by any means. Perfume is FAR too expensive, however wonderful the bottles look and smell. My sister Emily has a method she uses to capitalise on her perfume purchases – Emily owns a LOT of perfume.

Her trick is to keep an eye out at Kmart and the like on gift boxes. These gift boxes often come on sale. You can’t always see what’s in them as they are sealed over but the back should give it away. The box I got today cost me $35. I got a body lotion, shower gel, 50ml bottle of eau de toilette of the L’Air du Temps (essentially a cheaper, ‘less pure’ version of the same scent as the real perfume) and a very small bottle of the real stuff. An equivalent 50ml bottle of the real stuff on it’s own would’ve cost me near $100.

Good deal. Yes.

Culture Life

I’m rather enjoying the Tour de France. I picked Team Columbia but I’m not sure I’m quite commited just yet. I am a fan of Saxo Banks – however Catherine has claimed Saxo and is not really allowing anyone else at present barrack for the same. I am inclined to admire the climbers over the sprinters etc. I dare say this won’t be the last time I watch it and could be eaisly eaisly convinced to read up well and properly so I can actually know what I’m talking about.
