Off

Geoff and I have an opportunity to go to the Alt Worship Nosh. But the timing is off, Geoff starts his new job on Tuesday. We have a youth-group parents dinner to run on Friday. And there are scant few Fridays left to hang out with some of the best kids in the world.

I’m very interested to see what it’s all on about and I even read Jonny Baker’s blog… but it’s not happening this time.

Church Experiments

For my web class we’ve leapt off the diving board of html and css (the safe diving board) and into a rather daunting mess of Flash and ActionScript.

I can deal with Flash mostly, but action script = programming = bad tutorials (on the whole). Geoff knows php etc. which is remotely similar but not actionscript(2.0) – so my best source of help in the programing field doesn’t quite expand to meet the ‘help Bec’ criteria.

If you know of any simple clear tutorials on action scripting I would be extremely obliged if you could share.

I have to:

  • Make a volume dial work with sound and user interaction (I have semi-worked this out without sound so far)
  • Have a pull string to turn a lamp on and off – user interaction
  • Have an image of a head flip directions depending on where the mouse is in the screen
  • Have a fly move on a random path when the mouse rolls over/near it
  • and a bonus (if I get that far) a set area of the screen for the user to ‘draw’ on some paper

Unfortunately it’s the whole ‘user interaction’ (Action Script driven) that is the bugger to do, but the most fun result and kind of necessary for me to fulfil the brief.

I promise to share when it is complete.

Experiments Technology Uni

I was so close the other week to buying an old op-shop chair and doing something with it.

I confess when I was younger and maybe even now, I had a small fascination with things being re-done or made-over. Tonight I found this chair that has been made over. I am a) jealous b) inspired. I shall have to go find myself a chair and I’ll also have to see if I can squeeze some kind of half nice material out of Spotlight (craft-store) – the last time I looked, all they had was boring as cack.

And now I am on twitter, lets see where this goes… I have this funny feeling I joined before sometime and never used it.

artofconversationdetail02.jpgListening to Sinead O’Connor makes you feel all open, or something.

It’s a crackling 40 degrees outside. I’m upstairs in the ‘spare room’ surrounded by perpetual mess. The controller battery is too flat to display the actual temperature, but I think that the air con is on judging by the apparent coolness.

On Saturday we are running a mini-camp for our youth group kids. I doing a talk thing on ‘Hearing From God’. It’ll be interesting, because I don’t always do too well at it. I sort of rely on God to dump stuff in front of my face, like the other day when I opened my Bible for the first time in ages and got pretty much the verse/s I needed to hear. I’m sure God knows I like my irony, but I doubt that it should come hand in hand with laziness.

So maybe I’ll just write about the art of conversation in my empty Word Document, up in my room, by myself and see what comes of it. Or perhaps I should invite God along.
