Opshop Typographic Finds

Last week I took myself down to a cafe for a motivational change of scenery. While in the ‘slowly improving’ main street, I ducked into an opshop and was rewarded in finding some quite lovely design things. All this for only $4.10.

Earth Greetings

wattlebirdsToday I discovered that my neighbourly (and I really do literally mean neighbour) op-shop is selling earth-greetings cards, it’s a peculiar opshop in that it sells some new things as well as standard opshop things. Earth Greetings is Interesting in it’s philosophy, I not 100% sold on all their designs, but some of them a quite lovely, and hey – it’s Australian based. That’s another win on the environmental factor.

Beautiful Confusion

confusionI like the odd challenging book once in a while. Last night I started One Hundred Years of Solitude. It’s a novel by Nobel Prize winning, Gabriel Garcia Marquez and translated from Spanish.

Currently I’m amiss as to what is going on with each particular character as they all have names that blend into one, I can’t help but wonder if that is kind of the point.

I like finding something like beauty in confusion and like the idea that it is intentional. Perhaps it would broaden our perspective of life and the world and of God if we sometimes allowed ourselves to think in a similar way.

The jacket

I’ve had to upload via Flickr, but it was necessary to share such a good opshop find.

So I got this jacket for $15, it’s some designer brand (Custo Barcelona), fits quite well and is nicely cut/good length. It’s a bit more crazy than what I’d wear normally, but it was far too fun to let pass.

Chair lust and the DIY

I was so close the other week to buying an old op-shop chair and doing something with it.

I confess when I was younger and maybe even now, I had a small fascination with things being re-done or made-over. Tonight I found this chair that has been made over. I am a) jealous b) inspired. I shall have to go find myself a chair and I’ll also have to see if I can squeeze some kind of half nice material out of Spotlight (craft-store) – the last time I looked, all they had was boring as cack.
