As many of you know Geoff (my husband) is in the first batch of to go through Teach for Australia – which consequently leads to him being a secondary school teacher and our upcoming move etc. He is currently doing the first teaching intensive which means he is living on campus at Melbourne Uni and has each day packed to throat.

You can follow his progress/journey on Son of a Teacher Man

This leaves me at home. I get to see him on weekends (half of Saturday if I’m lucky) and at very least tonight I went into the city and had dinner with him – most nights classes go until like 8pm. In my ideal little world this is not how things happen, I’d rather be in the same house as him, or be able to hang out with him a few more evenings than I can, but it is two three week blocks and pretty important. (Okay it sucks). Thank goodness it all sounds so incredible or I’d be thoroughly pissed off.

Will be glad when it’s over. Keeping myself busy with catching up with people, Christmas shopping, loads of freelance design work, job hunting and packing (when I actually get to packing). Moving in less than three weeks. It’s all a bit psycho in a really mosey kind of way – in that I probably haven’t thought about it enough to be bothered…

Pleased to report that we have our housing sorted for next year! We will potentially see if we can get out of our current lease a little bit early but might have to play that one by ear. If that’s the case we’ll can potentially move around the Christmas period. Which could be a bit crazy, but considering the whole of November through January is going to be totally out of whack with Geoff on intensive and me job hunting and everything else, I’ve decided that a little bit more of crazy wont make much difference. I am looking forward, oddly, to sorting through our crap and whittling everything down before moving. I intend to be ruthless.

And while I’m talking about houses, check out:

Experiments Holidays House Life

Speaking of houses, a friend recently went to the Solomons and they took a photo of the house we used to own and lived in for some time! Weird. And super cool. We used to do school in that bit to the side. It was on a lean back then too.

Just a small update on where all the ‘changing careers/suburbs/life’ thing is going. My in-laws are buying an investment property which Geoff and I will rent, which is (in my opinion) AMAZING. So we have been looking at many many houses online and have in the past week or two checked some out.

Today we went to an auction but a tentative bidding tango between a very subdued Asian man who looked at the house half way through the auction (strange much?) and a very worried looking couple we decided it probably went above what we thought it was worth. Post this, we checked out several more a suburb over – which makes very little difference in the scheme of things and it seems to be much better value.

There are a few houses I am quite keen on. Two of which have been informally dubbed ‘party houses’ by Geoff (who hasn’t even seen them) one of which would need to be pretty much entirely repainted – would totally be worth it, but it’s lots of fun looking. Basically there’s not a huge amount of emotional investment on anyone’s part, because err, it is an investment and there are HEAPS of very decents houses around so it’s mostly just until we hit one that we like, is good for renting should Geoff and I ever move out (j/k Anne) and is the right price.

I shall keep you posted.

I got both these pictures for my birthday, one via Etsy (link to come for Monsieur Rabbit) and one is a poster that I found on my shopping expedition with my Mum and sister to to city. I have finally got both framed, although not sure if the lighter frame works so well with the nest -bought the frames at different times. I’m pretty much head over heels for the rabbit. (Sorry about the photos, late afternoon inside is not such great light and the colours aren’t quite accurate – and extra sorry for what looks like pee-water in the vase of natives, I should really do something about that).
