The jacket

I’ve had to upload via Flickr, but it was necessary to share such a good opshop find.

So I got this jacket for $15, it’s some designer brand (Custo Barcelona), fits quite well and is nicely cut/good length. It’s a bit more crazy than what I’d wear normally, but it was far too fun to let pass.

New shoes

The other day I got myself these shoes at a Rivers Clearance Outlet, I’ve had my eye on them for some time – typically they don’t look very ‘Rebecca’ but hey I can break the mould. They are leather and need some wearing in as they did rub a bit the first time I wore them… any suggestions to speed up the ‘comfortable’ feel? They rub mostly up near the join of my toes, yes they are the right size. Yes I might think about enduring pain to ‘get me there’ so I can wear them.

Three by design

Some design links for you today.

I cannot believe I haven’t talked about it before (I seem to recall doing so but it must of been in an online tute, because blog search results reveal nothing). I am in love with this building – the Lourve Museum in Abu Dhabi. I am pretty keen on getting there some day. The light play is amazing!

Rebound Books – My sister Laura gave me one of these for my birthday, it has the cover of The Silver Sword, a book I loved when I was younger. They use recycled denim paper for the pages and contain the occasional actual page, exciting.

Core77 – I came across this searching for something with a ‘skin’ for an online class. It is an industrial design focused online magazine/blog. Plenty of curious and beautiful things.

Young Art

The other day Geoff and I went and had a look at Top Arts 2007. Top Arts is a Victorian collection of the best VCE Artwork. I find the exhibition (I’ve been several years in a row now) pretty inspiring – and in a small way kind of freaky, most of the art is done by those younger than me. I am a huge fan of ‘Chad’ (featured left) by Sophie McPike.

See the rest of the exhibition here.

My little sister is doing VCE and does some fairly amazing stuff with charcoal/pencil. She’s been looking at portraiture, nudes etc. Perhaps she will make it into Top Arts next year.

This week in the news was the controversial Annie Leibovitz – a photographer I do admire – for her photographs of Miley Cirus. I personally think it’s a absolutely beautiful portrait… It is art.

It does however draw attention to the line between appropriate and not. Miley Cirus afterall is only 15. I wonder though, would it be looked at differently if it were a painting? How much does the subject influence the finished piece? Once we freeze the frame can we ever disassociate the actual subject from the art? But then… I guess it’s portraiture, so it’s entirely the point NOT to seperate the two.
