cityI’ve been pondering this article a little ever since I came across it a few days ago.

Christians and Culture

Do make sure you read the whole article (next buttons at the bottom).

Incarnational mission was the slap in the face this Sunday. We had a couple come to speak about working with westerners in India (hippies etc). Working with whom they were really suited and at the same time a group of people that were as a whole, overlooked.

The question is, I am fairly confident and have been for some time, that I wont end up working overseas unless it happens to be in a ‘western’ type culture. Why? Not sure. I do know what it’s like to do the typical missionary thing – I grew up in that environment. I don’t think that’s what God has for me. That leaves me with something a lot closer to home. This could be Rebecca just living her life in Australia and not going out of the way beyond the people within arms reach, or it could mean something more. In the past little while things have eventuated in to something almost tangible.

Possibilities are interesting.

7525000539_l0.jpgYouth night tonight. Cake. I made six of them yesterday. Numbers were down but the food was up. Lollies and cream and icing everywhere. We shouldn’t have bought cream. They had a ball.

What made it worth it (and really, I pick the oddest things) – was that I happened to catch one of the girls eyes (new girl) during the God Spot and gave her a bit of a smile and got the most massive grin back.

So much cake around me that a half piece was enough – any more and I would’ve been sick.
James came to help out.

It was a good night.

Had a marvellous day wandering Richmond with G who had the day off work, came back for coffee and watched a rabbit in it’s death throws.

Congratulations to Jess Rae over at Breaking, Shaping, Moulding… That’s the most misleading and delightful blog post I’ve read in a long time!

cheetahI hate the phrase, “From the mouths of babes”.

I went to help out at Terry’s Tucker Kids (which from now shall be simply referred to as Terry’s) tonight before young adults. Perhaps not the most wonderful of motives in going – to feel like I’d done something a little useful with my day but hey, I quite enjoy the change of pace and Narelle (the kids pastor) is worth getting to know a bit more.

So I was chatting with one of the girls who was carrrying a plastic cheetah around all evening and asking some silly kid type questions about what it’s name was blah de blah blah.

Then I asked where the cheetah’s home was.
She gave me a funny look and said in a very cute voice, “With me of course!”

God gave me a nudge or some kind of small wallop.

We should definitely take more time out to listen to kids.

cakes70.jpgThey went absolutely insane.

The scream game was the funniest thing I seen in a long time. I really can’t scream very well at all – it just comes out a kind of yell.

Spanna, Geoff (I think) and I are running next week. New strategy: stuff them full of food so they can’t talk. We’re having a cake night.

General Ministry

A few of the crew from church have been rounded up by Jess W (who does occasional volunteer work at TEAR Australia) to get involved in their Youthy/YoungAdults blog Advoc8 on Social Justice issues.

I was a tad hesitant at first as I have other commitments like Gush to which I’ve been slack about lately. But have realised that possibly the best way to challenge myself about social justice (because I do care, but I’m often at a loss for what to do) is to start forcing myself to consistently consider these kind of issues.

It doesn’t take a lot of effort for me to write a blog post. I enjoy it. And the only drawback being that I post a lot of crap unless inspiration strikes me (and I shouldn’t fill their site up with ‘a lot of crap’ – that’s what this blog is for.)

Anyhoo, I was inspired this morning by something. So bit the bullet and wrote a post.

NB: As Paul pointed out, Dont go directly to advoc8.org – you don’t get to the right spot (great banner), it needs to be: advoc8.tear.org.au
