Games

On Thursday Geoff and I traded in for Mario Kart (Wii). Love the game! Very worth your money as far as Wii games go, that and Paper Mario.

I never had the experience of playing Nintendo and the like when growing up, it was computer games like Croc, Commander Keen and Where in the World is Carmen San Diego (Where in Time was a lot better!) and the odd educational, such as GeoSafari. I tried for quite a while to get hold a joystick but proved fairly incompetent with it when I did.

The first computer game I remember playing was on a DOS system – there was a program to learn sign language and another to build dinosaurs, this was followed (When we finally got past that sad old OS) by an awesome violent chess game that Dad took off us because the queen bashed up anyone piece she took. I also remember quite fondly games like Mixed up Mother Goose and Jazz Jack Rabbit, and playing Prince of Persia at our friend’s (When Dad wasn’t looking – because it showed pixelly blood when the guy landed on spikes).

But no Nintendo. No gameboy, I really wanted a gameboy.

I wasted hours on SimCity and dollars on Civilization.

Now as an adult I don’t give a stuff about computer games, the web is an oyster as far as blogs are concerned, but games now fit as the occasional stab at Wii and a lot of the good old fashioned board/card.

It’s disgusting how many ‘traditional’ games Geoff and I own. Settlers and Munchkin are still holding their own, but we found this rather cool Carcassonne expansion today…
