Month: December 2006

Last night I went off to my little (middle) sister Emily’s graduation. It was long and boring as crap (feel free to share that information around) and the info booklet belonged in a funeral home – however, it was good to see her complete her schooling life and it really wasn’t all entirely bad.

Of course, yesterday also marked the fearful, ‘results come out’ day. I was woken to screaming. My smarty pant’s little blister has raised the bar for Hannah (who has two years to go) in beating both Laura’s and my score’s. In the 90’s. I personally think she deserved every bit of it and definitely since we continually harp on about her being so vague. Hit us where it hurts…. not that it does. Congratulations Emily – if you even read this.

As far as I know she’s following what I did in heading off for a year at Tabor for Year In the Son before waltzing off to probably whatever uni course she had as her first preference.

birdFor the past few days the four cars that belong to my household – (disgusting really) have been avoiding our driveway. The night I was at Handel’s Messiah a massive branch fell from a clearly rotten tree and would’ve made poor Fred (my car) pulp – thankfully my car was at Geoff’s and not where it is normally parked. Dad sent me a warning text message before I came home… but typically, I didn’t get it and had to move later.

There is currently another rather large branch suspended in between foliage waiting to drop. Dad has tried throwing things and the wind has possibly shuffled it but it isn’t coming down just yet.

So here we remain, having to park on the nature strip until the branch falls and ultimately, the tree is removed.

It’s highly functional, really.

Read and Blue has a new home!

I have traditionally (and will continue to) use this blog as a personal tracking ground for what I’m reading. So if you like books or are simply curious as to what’s going into my head (junk or class) then take a look.

21501493425129fe6.jpgAh the ridiculous nature of posting at stupid hours. I encountered a slight problem with Photoshop earlier and now, still here, I’ve also worked out that I haven’t done any ‘computer housework’ for much too long a time and it’s being darstardly slow in cleaning things up.

How’d my Sunday shape up?

Well, church this morning was hot (it being a good 37C) and quite good really. After not being there last week, it felt a little like stepping back into something I know well but have been away from. Which not surprisingly is exactly what it’s been (heh). I spent some time catching up with a few of the youth girls afterwards which really just made me realise how I’d like to do more for them… where to start?

This afternoon was spent at Geoff’s place (bring on the swimming pool!) for his parent’s 25th wedding anniversary BBQ. It was good fun!

I went to Handel’s Messiah this evening with Geoff. A little different than last time. A lot less formal but still very good. We amused ourselves (when not preoccupied with the music) with the bored and scowling soprano, the guy with the awesome beard and the baritone whom I caught nearly sitting down too early, Ha! His sheepish smirk should have been beheld by all.

I was waiting in line for the toilet during intermission and I got chatting to the lady next to me. It turns out her daughter is the tenor’s partner and this was the first time she’d ever been to see The Messiah performed. I mentioned that I’d seen the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra last year. She asked me if I sang, “No”, then mumbled something about auditions and ‘it’s a pity’. On parting she said, “Better luck next time”. I am in no doubt that she really thought I had auditioned for some part… haha, me musical! I think not. I thought about rectifying the situation but then realised it’d be more trouble than I could be bothered with. Some things are easier left.

It was a fun evening and something I am glad I’ve done again.

Perhaps next year I’ll find a ‘sing-a-long’ Messiah performance and then I can really claim that talent!

4.jpgIt’s been a big weekend.

Christmas shopping and Casino Royale (James Bond), a Gush meetup, Sam’s party, a YITS reunion (that semi-didn’t happen)…
It’s also marks the grand event of the gaining (finally) of an embarrassing moment… a repeatable one at least.

So Geoff and I were at the food court getting some dinner (Christmas shopping), I had just turned around to find Geoff after being served and he waved at me to show me where he was sitting.

I payed for my food and walked over and put the change into his hand, “Here you go!”. Moment of pure shock as I realised I had just given the wrong man the money (both were wearing blue shirts) the look on the guy’s face was priceless.. He gave me the money back very quickly somehow and I mumbled, “Uh, wrong guy”. Geoff was at the next table. I laughed pretty hard and was pretty red for the next while. It was all very amusing (after) and I really don’t ever want to repeat it.
