Rented

Two posts ago I was submitting applications – this could almost count as a live blog, but not.

WE GOT IT! The house we wanted.

I am extremely happy, this is the best place we looked at (three Saturdays worth) in the best location. It seems prayer works!

Geoff and Paul will be moving in not this weekend but next weekend(ish) and I’ll move in sometime in January.

Oh look, Paul’s blogged about it.

A word to caterers and venues

Before I finally recognise that we’ve settled full circle on having our reception at Geoff’s family’s property, I’d like to have a word (rant) to the caterers and venue hire places of the world.

Caterers

If you bother listing yourself online anywhere you NEED to have a website and a website that works not just a phone number and a page that shows your contact details yet again.
Menus need to be actually present and comprehensive beyond just saying that you do desserts, duh, I want to know what.
Prices, prices, prices. I don’t care if you food costs a lot or a little but I won’t go chasing anything unless I see prices or there is something else really convincing.
Pictures are nice of your food, but I’d rather you left them off if the resolution is so bad you can’t see anything. And please… for the sake of keeping your company viable – put a tiny bit of effort into presentation!
Hidden costs are mean

Venues

You usually get the ‘where’ said, but how many guests can you fit seated/standing?
Menus please
Prices please
Time restrictions please
Photos that show something about the venue, I know what rose bush looks like
Real Wedding photos at the venue
Hidden costs are mean
Dates online where you are ‘booked out’ so I can see without doing all the chasing only to find it’s useless.

Rent

Tomorrow I am submitting applications into the real-estate agent for a rental that Geoff and I are both extremely keen on, it’s location is ideal and it’s just nice.

Prayer would be great – if this is the house God has for us.

Geoff will be moving in with Paul for the first 5-6 months after then I will kick Paul out so I can move in.

First paid design work

Remember this? I designed the seal (voluntarily with motive) for a girl at work’s wedding invites.

This little piece of volunteer work has gotten me some paid real work! This is, I think, the first of lot of specific design work that I am getting paid for. I am now in charge of doing the rest of their invites, fairly standard stuff like layout – the logo itself will still be there and I think it is getting embossed.

Now the trepidation of being totally inept to appease my own perfectionist eye. This of course is irrational but lurking. I’m just hoping she’ll be more than satisfied with the outcome.

I get full printed copies of everything for my folio/record. Yipee!

While I’m on this, I have been looking around at printers/paper for doing our invites. Any tip-off’s would be fantastic. Any reasonably priced printers that you know? Also, if anyone knows where to get cream coloured card (Nice weight but not solid) wholesale for equivalent to less than $1 a sheet. That’d be nice. Don’t say Ebay.
