Apologies to inflict yet another video on you, but last night Geoff, Laura, Tim S and I had the pleasure of seeing CW Stoneking. He currently sings… erm, callipso jazz and it certainly doesn’t sound like it should be coming out of this white aussie guy – although I can’t say he’s a typical specimen (Doesn’t that word make you cringe?). It was quite amazing. The crowd at Rubys was vastly colourful in age and in style.

The age have an article on him

Prior to Stoneking, was this guy, Brownbird Rudy Relic, whom when we saw listed on the blackboard outside- first thought was two bands, then one… and turned out to be this one guy. One that made up for about twenty. As someone described it – it was like Elvis on a chair. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone perform quite like it. I’ve also never seen anyone open their mouth quite that wide, or drink so much water in such a short time.

An excellent and very different night out.

coffeecup1Since our honeymoon, back in January, Geoff and I have been casually searching for these round double layer bodum latte glasses. We were first introduced to them at Hahndorf Hill Winery after an exceptional meal and probably the best wine I’ve ever tasted (White Mischief), so the appeal is part memory, part design lust.

Yesterday I finally found them at Wheel & Barrow, after I braved the new Doncaster Westfield. They were tad pricey but a little too pretty to resist.

The verdict on the glasses is good, the verdict on Doncaster is that it’s far too showy and self important. I’d only return for the paper shop, the rest is somewhat ridiculous and I didn’t enjoy the experience.

Oh the innovation!

Ployvore is glorious!

I’ve never been one of great skill with fashion as I cannot usually bring myself to spend the $’s it often needs, nor do I seem to have the ultimate knack. But this is a collage making tool. And a tool that lets you share them after you’ve created them. AND then lets those who browse, click on each item to take you to exactly where they’ve found the image. This is equivalent to endless inspiration! Stunning colour combinations and plenty of drool.

Go and drool and then come back and share your inspiration.

heart-illustrationI’ve never been very in to politics, I grapple every election to really ‘get it’ and so although interesting, I probably cannot talk very informatively on how to vote. Keep this is mind as you read. Thankfully I’m married to a man who enjoys explaining such things. The United States election should be of even less interest me. Oddly enough since I started watching the West Wing (of which I am unashamedly a huge fan) and demanding small explanations, and as the media across the world hones in on these two very different candidates it’s become increasingly intriguing.

At uni we’ve talked about how their branding strategies differ, about how they’ve chosen to represent themselves and there is of course the ridiculous amount of money that could be spent on fixing real problems rather than campaigning. Sometimes it feels a bit of a sham.

I do think the following:

It should be compulsory to vote and I’m really glad I live in a country that demands it.

The world is not black and white.

At least locally if Barack Obama doesn’t manage to hold the spot, a ton of America’s credibility will fly right out the window. I’m not sure what it is, perhaps the opportunity to make such a clear statement about the past, or perhaps it’s just that from here one candidate seems to outweigh the other so much, that the other might as well not be running. But then where would be democracy?

As I peruse the countryless internet, I’ve come across a few things related to the election that I think are interesting:

20-somethings and Obama

Why I’m a Democrat

and best still, you can go and download Derek Webb’s album Mockingbird for free, which has a very interesting spoken bonus track about voting (not endorsing either candidate). Decent CD too (I got it the first time around), interesting lyrics. If nothing else, listen to, A New Law.

Please vote.
