bootsTheir website looks crap, but the hard copy brochure that one of my bosses waved my way this morning was quite impressive. The concept of roles associated with feet, or rather our shoes is a strong one and whats more, it is quite unique.

This is clever marketing, and although I think the swirly font looks crap (especially in light blue), the overall message is clear, a bit quirky and fun and definitely caught our attention. I would be very happy if I had paid for this concept. It’s nice to see an accountancy firm being a little bit brave in how they present themselves to the world.

The fact that I know a couple people who work at Saward Dawson is entirely irrelevant, besides one of them would kill me if I revealed his more of his identity on the interweb (You’ll have to virtually go through my sidebar to work it out).

Design

24959x-086aI have this shocking habit of going and starting interesting things at very inconvenient times.

The other evening I began work on a new blog design/site design, in order to incorporate or in more realistic terms, mash the whole lot into something cohesive.

It currently looks very, very different to anything I have had up before. Yes I like it.

But wait! There’s a catch, at the moment my pretty little design sits in all it’s html and css glory and I have this ugly obsession with this marvellous WordPress thing. So until I figure out how to make it all work as a blog (and when I do, I can squash the world between two pinkies whenever I like, because this will give me great power, truly it’s exciting!) please sit tight.

I have to go overseas first, finish and improve a certain photographer’s website, hope and pray that my ‘design contact’ calls me some time that’s more convenient and wait for the sordid remains of my university marks for the semester – which could at worst throw me into a pit of despair and I mightn’t show my face for months.

Meanwhile, any resources you surely-able technologically minded people have in relation to scrubbing up a wordpress theme FROM SCRATCH would be greatly appreciated. I do have some idea what I’m doing but anything helps.

*Apologies for the boring title, this is my ploy to lure useful people from the depths of the internet. Alternatively I would’ve gone for something more like, “We’d change with the season, if it didn’t take so much work”. And that would just be silliness going beyond reason.

**There is a clue here. Unless I change my mind.

Blogging Design Experiments

unodent1I ranted on and on about my packaging class (which had more to do with 3D form and structure than package/label design) and never ended up showing it off. Probably because I’m not hugely proud of it. It came off okay, modelling with clay is perhaps not my forte, but there you go. It’s over. I think I can glean a pass, although I shan’t know until after I get back from overseas. As for the competition, it turned out I couldn’t easily enter on the day I went in as the uni cashiers took off on some staff day. The lecturer would be mortified. But guess what, I don’t really care.

There is also a button on the back (which you can’t see in this image).

It is packaging for toothpaste (in a toothbrush, if you really can’t work that out).

Design Uni

Another video for you to watch today. It think I’ll let it speak for itself.

The Girl Effect Website

also, it is quite beautiful typographically (which is entirely not the point, but still interesting)

Design Social Justice

Visit Sacred Space and while I’m on about wandering around the prayer/quiet thing, Jacob over at Sensus Divinitatis is starting a series on quiet times, which I still maintain is a crap name.

And then there’s this funky little java ap to make beautiful word clouds, Wordle

And wow. This guy is selling ‘his life’ on ebay… I’ve often wondered what it would be like to just up and move to somewhere entirely new with no-one you knew.

Thanks to Hammo, pretty sure two of those links came via you.

And lastly.
