smalllogo1.jpgRemember this? I designed the seal (voluntarily with motive) for a girl at work’s wedding invites.

This little piece of volunteer work has gotten me some paid real work! This is, I think, the first of lot of specific design work that I am getting paid for. I am now in charge of doing the rest of their invites, fairly standard stuff like layout – the logo itself will still be there and I think it is getting embossed.

Now the trepidation of being totally inept to appease my own perfectionist eye. This of course is irrational but lurking. I’m just hoping she’ll be more than satisfied with the outcome.

I get full printed copies of everything for my folio/record. Yipee!

While I’m on this, I have been looking around at printers/paper for doing our invites. Any tip-off’s would be fantastic. Any reasonably priced printers that you know? Also, if anyone knows where to get cream coloured card (Nice weight but not solid) wholesale for equivalent to less than $1 a sheet. That’d be nice. Don’t say Ebay.

Design Wedding

fullscreen_fig_09.jpgI was going to go to bed, but for the sake of the goings-on of the past few days crowding out more interesting thoughts, the goings-on of the past few days must be said.

As Alex has mentioned, Geoff and I had our engagement party yesterday. Our Mums (and Dads) and many other helpful siblings/bridesmaids and friends put in a massive effort and we had a fantastic afternoon/evening. With over a hundred people to get around to, it was a pretty big effort to keep my eyes open by the end of it. I loved that we had representatives from most arenas of our lives. A huge thanks to our youth kids for doing some fairly impromptu waitress/waitering and doing a good job. We had a really valuable time of getting prayed for and we did also get some pretty nice presents!

On that, Saturday night we made it to Beth and James’ (Burkie’s) engagement party and had a fine time getting know Rohan . I’d never met him before – Geoff had through Tabor. I did really enjoy chatting with him. It makes me envious that I don’t have many/if-any friends in the slightly next stage of life – they are valuable, valuable people. I also got to catch Sammy, Paul, Sus and Matt briefly (Gush people) – always fun!

Today my good friend Jess took me along make-up shopping. She does happen to be scooting off to India just before my wedding but has an extremely good idea of how go about the make-up thing. NB. I don’t wear make up and really have zero idea. Anyway after some hesitant contemplating I have decided to have a sibling/friend do my make-up instead of paying someone I don’t know. We prowled tentatively around Myers and got accosted by a make-up counter woman who balked a little at the fact that I was diy’ing it for my wedding (Not too badly) she then proceeded to be quite nice in sharing a rough costing of the variety of products, then pointed us particularly toward her range. Those who know me should be proud, I didn’t say something rude out-loud or make a face when she said that the price of an eyeshadow was $90 – I might’ve in my head.

So we took off to The Body Shop where things were far more casual and helpful and possibly more ethical. We tried some stuff out with the help of the lady there, bought a few things and came home and ‘played’. Jess is good, it felt very professional and I came out looking good and was satisfied with the result. She now has to teach a sister of mine (or someone else) how to do it and we’ll have a crack at getting it just right. I am now very convinced that I am far more comfortable having someone I know well in my face than someone I have paid too much for, show up. We will practice enough so I don’t end up angry on the morning. That… and the $90 that could’ve (in someone else’s world) been spent on one eyeshadow, bought almost everything we’ll need.

Tomorrow I am bridesmaid dress shopping with my three bridesmaids, hopefully will get around to writing two more blog posts – one about a fantastic movie I got to see with Geoff tonight and head to the next Vocare meetup where I will ashamedly admit that I still haven’t met my ‘mentor’ and have missed the past few weeks of readings.

Now that is out. Now I can sometime get to sharing some bigger conversations and thoughts. While you’re waiting for that, check the conversation going on at Hope Road about Stay at Home Daughters. I was interested. Alternatively check out, The Soundtrack of Your Life for some good music, funny the things you find through reading a design blog – I quite like French music.

Life Post of the Day Wedding

farts.jpgIn my travels and thanks to another Bec who found me through advoc8, AND offered me some money saving tips, I have discovered Etsy.

What is Etsy?

Think Ebay, but classy and handmade/handcrafted.

I came close to buying a necklace/earings off there for the wedding (muahaha) when I suddenly clued that my sister can make perfectly nice jewelery and it’s definitely simple enough for her (No offense Em), thus saving myself about $60. If she’s nice.

Wow. I nearly spent money on something I’m not even sure is 100% right. What’s gottne into me!?

Despite the sometimes realistic, tedious but cheaper means of ‘DIY’, it can’t all be done and I really got fairly excited – that girly/indie/vintage/loving thing in me – looking around. It’s fun! I want it all!

The US dollar is down (I think that’s the right way of saying it) at the moment so the prices don’t vary too much, most sellers post everywhere for fairly reasonable prices- some sellers are Australian – even cheaper.

If you like… stuff go and have a look! Analise, my finger is pointing at you (And it’s sure not the middle one).

The website itself is quite appealing and the whole thing definitely has the tendency to be addictive.

Culture Design General Wedding

something_to_say_by_autumn_rain.jpgI haven’t fallen off the side of the planet.

There is a mounting list of things I should be doing but quite literally, can’t.
I am about as bogged down in uni stuff as you can get. There needs to be a little space to live and sleep but in predicting the next two weekends, it’s only going to get worse.

One thing worth mentioning is that we’re trying something a bit new with our youth group. Every few weeks instead of our ‘Friday nights’ we are splitting into small groups. This happens whenever works best during the week. I have the Year 7 girls as my crew as I seem to have a bit of a relationship going with them and am really (to be honest) quite pleased about it. Laura is taking the Year 9 girls and Analise the Year 8’s, Geoff is taking all the boys (There are only about 3) and we’re on the lookout for co-leaders.

I’d like to run with a mix of fun stuff and of course, some deeper stuff (Wow, beautifully coherent, clever words). Any ideas would be welcome. The first one is this coming Friday.

And that’s that. News and news and not told that interestingly.

Oh, we do have a 90% confirmed reception place and we have gotten an absolute bargain due to one clever stumbling across!!!… and our engagement party is in a few weeks. Invites to go out soonish. Keep checking your email!

Life Ministry Wedding

balloon.jpgYou think you’ve beaten childhood to an extent until you stumble across that devestated feeling (somewhat irrational) of having something you really quite like, break.

Work gave Geoff and I an engagement present today. The wrapping was an art form and the inside was this really, really, really nice white platter with a simple black plant design. The kind of thing I love.

So I cart it all the way home on the train and I’m getting out of my car, crossing the street when it falls out of the bottom of the box and smashes into sizable pieces the middle of the road.

The small bowl and two cheese knifes are still intact, the plate (the nicest bit) however is not, nor is my thumb (which I cut).

I haven’t been disappointed like that a long time.

That popped balloon feeling.
